The Administration Official Set to Visit Local AmeriCorps NCCC Campus
Vicksburg, MS – Patrick Corvington, CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service, will meet with Vicksburg Mayor Paul E. Winfield and state and local leaders to discuss strategies to leverage citizen service to solve local problems.
Vicksburg is the first stop on Corvington's summer tour to engage diverse communities in the new vision for national service. Several dozen nonprofit and social sector leaders will gather to discuss the agency's five-year strategic plan to expand opportunities for more Americans to volunteer and drive more measurable impact toward local challenges. Mayor Winfield's commitment to service as a solution led to Vicksburg's naming as one of the 17 founding Cities of Service.
Corvington will also tour the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) Vicksburg campus, the newest of the five AmeriCorps NCCC campuses nationwide. Opened last fall, the Vicksburg campus hosts 160 corps members organized into teams that serve an 11-state region in meeting community needs. In its first year, AmeriCorps NCCC members stationed in Vicksburg have responded to five disasters in four states, assisted 5,668 people in mass care facilities, refurbished 358 homes for disaster victims, leveraged 15,479 volunteers, gave 320 hours of tutoring to students and so much more.
