Director of Senior Corps
Tess Scannell serves as Director of Senior Corps at the Corporation for National and Community Service. The Senior Corps is comprised of three programs with 500,000 volunteers nationwide and a budget of more than $200 million a year.
Ms. Scannell has more than 35 years of professional experience in the fields of social services, public policy, intergenerational issues, national service, and nonprofit management. Prior to coming to the Corporation, Ms. Scannell was Director of Generations United, a national coalition on intergenerational issues and programs. Under her leadership, Generations United grew from a single idea to the national coalition that exists today. She also has more than ten years of experience with the Senior Community Service Employment Program, first as a project director at the local level, and then at the national level, providing technical assistance to projects in 47 states.
Ms. Scannell received her Maters Degree in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania, served on the Advisory Council for the 1995 White House Conference on Aging and is the author of several manuals on intergenerational and social service issues as well as numerous journal and newsletter articles.
